Lake Finland Health - Strategic Leadership Capacity Building Coaching Programme and Strategy Work

In late 2023, Järvi-Suomen Terveyde's CEO Markku Hämäläinen identified the need to develop the company's strategic management capability and, in particular, to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the management chain (Owners, Board & Management). At the same time, Mr Hämäläinen noted that the process should result in a new, clarified and crystallised strategy.

The aim of the coaching programme was to get the OHJ chain working with its roles, i.e:

To clarify the owners' will and the role of the company as part of the owners' service system.
To clarify the role of the Board of Directors in the strategic management of the company.
To give operational management a mandate to play its role, based on the defined will of the owners and supported by the Board, in implementing the renewed strategy that has been built.

The coaching programme consisted of comprehensive background work to understand the current state and the state of mind, joint face-to-face coaching, Team Spars, interim tasks, and ongoing steering group work. At the end of the coaching programme, a clear, crystallised and ambitious strategy was developed for the company.

According to Marku, a clear growth story emerged during the coaching programme, and the initial objectives of the programme were excellently met. ”The coaching sessions have had a real spirit of doing and things have moved forward well. The coaching programme has also brought the Board and operational management significantly closer together.”, Markku stresses.

During the coaching programme, the flying height of thinking has increased significantly. “It seems that the government that was audited in the spring and the government that has now developed an extremely clear strategy were completely different people in terms of thinking and doing after working together. The cooperation was also facilitated by the clear direction and plan prepared by Marku, which was followed throughout the journey together.”, says Joshua, who was the coach.

In addition to the final results of the coaching, the way in which Kalle, as project manager and account manager, took the cooperation forward together with the steering group is also commendable. “Cooperation was extremely clear throughout and therefore easy. What was planned and promised to be done was always done. Communication worked and confidential interaction was maintained throughout the programme.”, says Markku.
